The celebration continues

My little guy turns 5 years old today and the joy that he exudes from this date is so contagious that we have all being on a big birthday mode. He has his own calendar, which he changes daily, and this past week he was rather pleased with such a task. Today, it is finally here and he is now a big boy!

I continue to make more birthday cards this week, and this is not the card I made for him. I will post his card and banner tomorrow. This card is a combination of challenges: Freshly Made Sketch challenge 176 and also Color Challenge 520 from Splitcoast Stampers. The colors are great together, but I decided to keep this card simple as it is intended to a teenager girl. The Cup Cake Builder punch is a favorite and sure adds a nice touch. The sentiment is from the And Many More stamp set, which is a favorite too.

Polka dot madness!


11-13

I am going on a strike! Yes, against the weather. It is not even December and our thermometer is not looking good at all. This morning it read -14C, which is about 10F. We have some snow on the ground, and the wind is too fierce. I have not left my house since Wednesday last week!

But, that does not stop me from crafting and meeting up with friends. I have a busy week with club and my last Holiday stamp-a-stack class. I held three this year and had a blast each time. Hence me not posting anything over the weekend. Today I went back to my craft room and saw the Mojo Monday challenge 372 and also the Pals Paper Arts challenge 227. That was all the ingredients I need to kill my craving for a fun card. I chose to have mostly DSP used for this one and the Flower Pot and Sweet Taffy DSP had the colors I need and they all had polka dots. The sentiment is from I Like You hostess stamp set and the flower is from the medium size stamp from the Flowering Flourishes set. I like the turn out and so did my daughter! I hope you will too.

Let's keep it simple.


 

I do like elaborate and embellished cards, but, I also favor those that are simple by nature. Clean and simple as well as minimalists cards where a small amount of materials are used.

And here is a card that with a mere list of six items will make someone smile and feel very special on hers or his birthday. What do you think? I took the sketch from Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge 243, kept the supplies to one DSP, Sweet Taffy, one ink, Old Olive, one stamp set, Sassy Salutations, and cardstock, and in this case I did use 3 colors, but it can easily be done with 2 colors.

A bright way to live!



Isn't it so nice to have some burst of bright colors in our lives? Sometimes I feel that my children are just like that; they bring colors, lots of colors, into my life and they are a true burst of colors and happiness.

That's why when I saw the Fusion Shiny Pink challenge I figure I need to go for a bright color indeed. The Label Something stamp set was the perfect choice for the sentiment. I did go with the Blendabilities in this card as I want to have a nice coloring effect and because it is so wonderful to color with them, so how could I resist?

It is time for sweet again - Sweet Taffy

I think a card that is a bit tricky to make is a retirement card. I wanted to make a retirement card using the Dostamper Stars Challenge 093 and the Try Stampin on Tuesday Challenge 179 as my starting point. I like to make cards that hold a bit of surprise, so rather than just stating the fact,  I went with the sentiment from the See Ya Later stamp set, now retired.


Instead of using card stock, I used the Sweet Taffy DSP for the patterned papers. All three DSP were from the Sweet Taffy DSP. I love when I can get it all from one single package of paper.

Tips and Tricks:
  • Before inking the stamp, I covered the Alligator with tape, inked the stamp, removed the tape, and then stamped. I find it easier and faster than using a marker. 
  • The bow was easily made using my Bow Maker. Got love that tool!

Sweet Taffy - Laugh Happy!


 

This has been a beautiful and very memorable week for me and my daughter. The closing concert was on Friday and as usual the children gave their very best to played marvelously. Back home, we were able to enjoy the rest of the family company and got some much needed chores done. I did so well that I even had time to play! My game of choice today is Freshly Made Sketch challenge 147. I am still playing with all the new and tremendous Designer Series Paper, and therefore I could not pass on the Sweet Taffy to go with this challenge.


The Sweet Taffy DSP sure has a bubbly and happy personality. I dismissed stamps on this project as the paper did all the talk for me.  This card is perfect to accompany a gift to a friend or someone fun having something fun to celebrate!


Tips and Tricks:
  • The strips were cut with a 1/8" difference in the size for both length and width.
  • The Old Olive layer was cut 1/4" smaller than the base. The bakers twine was attached on the back using regular snail adhesive.
