Sail away.


The warmth of the summer days are priceless. Sunday was a raining day that turned out getting hot and humid in the afternoon. My husband complains about it, but for me, walking outside, is like being hugged head to toes.... and remaining hugged until I go back inside. Love it.

Being close to a body of water helps. Sailing and jumping in the ocean in a hot, humid day is the icing on any cake. The smell of the sea on the skin and hair is so wonderful. Making a card with maritime theme always triggers memories of times by the ocean. This card is perfect for any one, but I think it has a make connotation to it. The Maritime DSP was used all around here and The Open Sea stamp set complemented the theme. A great inspiration from the Fusion Blue Skies and Smooth Sailing challenge.

Ahoy, mate!



Is this a fresh inspiration? The idea of sail boats is just the ticket for thoughts of the ocean, warm and gentle breeze, and the saltiness that only the ocean can offer. Ah, summer time!

The Dostamper Stars challenge 134 gives me opportunity to reminisce about good old times at the beach. The soon to retire Maritime DSP set the background and The Open Sea stamp set gave the tone. I used a bit of Painted Blossom Cotton Twine for the nautical knot and I think it turned out really well. Much simpler to make than it appears. Love the effect of that against the matching DSP.

The celebration continues

My little guy turns 5 years old today and the joy that he exudes from this date is so contagious that we have all being on a big birthday mode. He has his own calendar, which he changes daily, and this past week he was rather pleased with such a task. Today, it is finally here and he is now a big boy!

I continue to make more birthday cards this week, and this is not the card I made for him. I will post his card and banner tomorrow. This card is a combination of challenges: Freshly Made Sketch challenge 176 and also Color Challenge 520 from Splitcoast Stampers. The colors are great together, but I decided to keep this card simple as it is intended to a teenager girl. The Cup Cake Builder punch is a favorite and sure adds a nice touch. The sentiment is from the And Many More stamp set, which is a favorite too.

Sir Williams, Thank you!



Yes, that was shocking news about Robyn Williams' death. I always enjoyed his humor and his pinch, ok, cup, of craziness. It is sad to see someone so talented to go and I hope his soul finds peace and rest. However, I do wish to send here my thank you card for all his dedication and contribution to art. Thank you Sir.


The beautiful sketch from the Retro Sketch Challenge 127 is the canvas today. I like the bold colors of the Marine DSP so went with that for a masculine thank you card that is sure to make an impression.

Tips and Tricks:
  • The Coastal Cabana piece was punched using the Decorative Label punch. 
  • I can hardly get enough from the Good Greetings Stamp Set. More news on that soon to come! Stay tuned!!!

And Yet another Happy Day!


   

Happy Day indeed! We are finally catching a break with my baby's skin condition and that is making all of us happy. To celebrate, I visited the Try Stampin' on Tuesday to check out what challenge they had going on and the sketch was just right. Then I was off to look for some colors and found the color combo from ColourQ challenge was happy and fresh.  From there it was easy to pick the Smile sentiment from the Happy Day stamp set and get the card completed!

Tips and Tricks:
  • The DSP used on the top is so beautiful. The photo does not do justice. I cut a trip 1" wide, and layered on Calypso Coral card stock that has been cut using the Scallop edge border punch.
  • For the sentiment, I stamped on Whisper White and then layered on Basic Black which was cut with the Chalk Talk and then split in half.
  • The beautiful bow was easily done using my Bow Maker.
